Bazaar Baru Chow Kit wet market, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Best for: Malay edibles and vintage clothing About: What started off as Kuala Lumpur’s red light district now hosts the city’s largest wet market. While one side of Chow Kit is still home to seedy buildings, the other side has the popular Bazaar Baru Chow Kit, an indoor fruit and vegetable market. Narrow walkways feature rows of stalls selling all kinds of fish, crustaceans, meats, vegetables and spices, and Malaysian delicacies such as nasi goreng, nasi lemak, apam balik, roti canai and nasi campur on the street. The market also has a separate ‘dry’ section featuring clothes, silks, shoes, CDs and souvenirs. At night, the district hosts the Bundle Chow Kit street market along Lorong Haji Taib, which sells vintage clothes and accessories.
